What Factors Affect the Cost of Dental Implants in Hamilton
One question our Hamilton dentists trained in implant dentistry receive a lot is how much dental implants can cost. This is of course natural to wonder, as many individuals in need of dental implants would like to know how much they would need to pay to get their smile back. The price, however, is not a standard one for all individuals.
To fully understand the quote, you must first book a consultation to learn about implants in general and know what factors decide the cost, as well as take into account a number of points we’ll cover below.
How Much Will I Pay for Dental Implants at my Hamilton Dental Office?
Implant therapy consists of 2 parts: the dental implant (a titanium screw or “anchor” inserted into bone) and the prosthesis (the tooth replacement method which is attached to the implant). The average fee for a dental implant ranges on a case by case basis, but for the most part can be anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000 for the implant alone. After the dental implant is placed, the prosthesis must be
added, which is a separate cost from the implant itself. The prosthesis may be added at any time after the implant is placed, with some patients electing to wait until finances are right to place a crown. Typically the wait time between dental implant placement and prosthesis insertion is 3 months. After 3 months, a crown is fabricated by a dental laboratory to custom fit the dental implant which costs between $1,500 to $2,500. Crowns overtop of dental implants have a higher laboratory fee due to having more technical steps involved, as well as
requiring custom parts to be ordered to fit your size and type of implant.
Several factors affect the cost of dental implant placement and dental implant prostheses:
· Implant Surgeon Fees: The surgeon responsible for your dental implant will charge their fee for placing the implants, including the cost of the implant materials. Worth noting however, is that bone grafts and sinus elevations might increase the surgeon’s fee.
· Implant Fee and Materials Fee: The implant (titanium screw) itself costs approximately $350 to $500 and must be ordered from a manufacturer. This charge is part of your estimate. If any additional materials must be ordered (bone graft material, specific impression copings, temporary prosthetic abutments, etc.) this may increase the cost of your implant treatment.
· Dentist’s Fee: Your dentist’s fee will be factored into the total implant procedure and will include a treatment plan, diagnostic impressions/x-rays, impressions of the final implant, insertion of the implant prosthesis, balancing your bite after the prosthesis is complete, as well as a number of other steps to ensure the procedure is successful.
· Lab Fee: A dental lab is used to custom fabricate your implant prosthesis after it has been placed in your jaw bone. The dental lab fees can be affected by: they type of material used to fabricate the crown (gold, porcelain, zirconia, etc.), the size of the implant/crown, the type of implant, and the number of implants.
While the cost of dental implants is significant, the benefits are many, making it worthwhile to consider this a suitable solution for your dental issues. The return on investment is high, especially when you consider the cost and hassles you save by using implants.
